Carrying no cash prize, only the coveted honour of the title as finalist or winner, every year all the multiple retailers such as Homebase and B&Q, as well as Wickes, Do It All, Focus and others would organize entries and nominations at regional level. The judging and awards process enabled the sponsoring supplier to gain quality time with senior managers and directors of all the groups and offered unique opportunities for dialogue and relationship building.This sponsorship property became increasingly valuable and was passed in turn to Romerco clients in 3-year packages. First Loctite Adhesives, then Addis Housewares and finally Spur Shelving acted as lead sponsors. The suppliers built valuable goodwill with all the retailer groups. The retail chains as well as individual store managers gained national and regional prestige and media coverage for their achievements. The winners and finalists all got promoted and the award quickly became the most reliable way of moving store managersí careers forward within the group.
